Mirabel Ngong

Mirabel is from Cameroon. She is a communicator and advocate for women’s rights and girls’ education. She holds a Diploma and a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Media from the National Polytechnic and the University of Buea Cameroon, respectively. Prior to joining Urgent Action Fund-Africa, she worked with Media Foundation for West Africa, Ghana and then with Community Empowerment Program Cameroon where she led the implementation of programmes that focused on promoting girls’ education and women’s leadership. Mirabel has managed other communications portfolios including public relations management for KiRette Couture and Communication Officer at Community Initiative for Sustainable Development. With over four years of work in the civil society she has advocated for single mothers going back to school using radio drama on community radio stations. She has worked with COMINSUD Cameroon to train 63 young women to participate in local governance activities and reached out to 397 women within a project that contributed in increasing the percentage of women elected to Local Councils in North West Region in 2013 from 16% to 26% Mirabel is an alumna of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, a flagship Program of President Obama for young African Leaders. She has spoken on several global forums on girls’ education and women’s human rights. Mirabel is passionate about girls’ education and women’s rights. In 2018 she produced a television spot; ‘Bridging the Gap’ and co-authored a best-selling anthology entitled ‘The New Woman’. In 2017, her work on girls’ education and women’s human rights was recognised by Global Goodwill Ambassadors.
